Black Grouse sitting in birches
Black Grouse in the winter frequently feed on the birch buds, therefore in December stocky birds can be seen sitting in slender birch branches in Adazi military training area and protected landscape area "Adazi".
Black Grouse are sedentary birds and in winters tend to gather together in flocks - from a few to 30-40 birds. At the moment Black Grouse can be observed in "Adazi" both on the ground and in the trees. During the winter sometimes they also tend to dig under the snow to avoid the cold.
In March and April Black Grouse will start to occupy lek spaces in the heath. Male eyebrows will turn bright red and they will display themselves and compete for the attention of the females.
